Renewable Energy

The Renewable Energy Team has specialist expertise in the rapidly growing renewable energy sector, particularly in the area of wind energy, solar and biomass.

Our service is client focused and partner led in order to deliver effective and efficient legal advice to our renewable energy clients. We advise a wide range of stakeholders operating in the energy sector, from market leading semi-state entities to private developers and banks. We provide legal advice on all aspects of energy projects, from the planning stage through to the financing, construction and operation of the project. We have particular expertise acting for developers on project financing and on the sale and purchase of energy projects.

We also advise our clients on all regulatory matters relating to renewable energy projects including the REFIT 2 Terms and Conditions, and the rules relating to the upcoming Integrated Single Electricity Market (I-SEM) and all required authorisations and licences. We also have considerable experience in reviewing and negotiating Power Purchase Agreements including corporate Power Purchase Agreements for renewable energy projects.

In recent years we have:

  • Negotiated turbine supply agreements and maintenance contracts with Vestas, Enercon, Siemens, Gamesa and Senvion, among others.
  • Negotiated power purchase agreements with each of Bord Gáis, SSE Airtricity, Viridian, ESB, Electroroute, Vayu and Gaelectric.
  • Executed multiple project financings where each of the following acted as primary lender: HSH Nordbask, AIB, Bank of Ireland, Nord LB, Ulster Bank and Triodos Bank.

Our Renewable Energy Team of eleven solicitors work seamlessly with our in-house experts across our Commercial Property, Corporate & Commercial and Public & Regulatory Departments to provide clients with a fully integrated service via a single point of contact.
