Our most recent Employment seminar took place this morning (26th February) entitled ‘Employment Law Review of 2018 and What’s in Store for 2019’ in the Merrion Hotel, Dublin.

McDowell Purcell Employment Partners Barry Walsh and Julie Austin covered various topics such as:

  • An update on challenges to mandatory retirement, auto-enrolment and a review of the Code of Practice on Longer Working introduced by the Workplace Relations Commission.
  • An update on the right to legal representation in internal disciplinary investigations following the Court of Appeal decision in 2018 in Irish Rail v McKelvey.

  • Zero hours contracts and the Employment (Miscellaneous Provision) Act 2018 which will come into force in March 2019.
  • Developments in data protection for HR Managers including a review of the Court of Appeal decision in the Morrison’s payroll data breach case.
