Maeve Larkin


Maeve Larkin is Partner in the Planning and Environmental Law team.

Her practice involves environmental enforcement work across the country, multi-party judicial review proceedings in the Superior Courts, and extensive planning and environmental law advisory work.

She provides practical and strategic advice to clients on the performance of their statutory functions, including licensing and enforcement functions, freedom of information and planning decision-making functions.

She has represented public bodies in close to 100 prosecutions for breaches of environmental, water and waste legislation, and has managed complex injunction proceedings through the Superior Courts.

She is the current Chairperson of the Irish Environmental Law Association ( She lectures on the Law Society’s Diploma in Environmental and Planning Law and appears at conferences and training sessions on current environmental and planning law issues.



Maeve’s experience includes:

  • Representing planning and environmental authorities in over 100 cases at all levels of the Irish courts system and at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
  • Advocate in Courts across the country in environmental enforcement matters.
  • Successful defence of a suite of cases relating to renewable energy developments, including interlocutory applications and managing appeals to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
  • Representing a public body in the Court of Justice of the European Union relating to issues of Appropriate Assessment and the assessment of alternatives as part of Environmental Impact Assessment.
  • Advising public bodies on all aspects of their statutory functions, across a wide range of legislation, both national and European.
